On a business trip in philadelphia and I found this awesome bit of stained glass. Apparently, a number of the bus stops feature it in differing designs. I love public art beautification projects.
The thing I love about writing for a local paper is the array or assignments that can come my way.
A few weeks ago I got the chance to cover an elementary school play. I’ve done this productions of all shapes and sizes over they years but never with a production of people so young. It was amazing and fantastic the drama program at this school is just another item on the list of reasons kids thrive when they have artistic outlets.
If interested check out my article here.
I also got to cover a expo on health & safety. I go to chance to talk with an awesome woman who works with the areas only women’s domestic violence shelter. It was really amazing talking about the work being done and I hope I get the chance to talk with her more in-depth in the future.
I love books. Well, I love writing so the two go hand in hand but I love books to an insane degree. My dream is be a crazy old book lady, instead of the usual crazy old cat lady troupe. A book igloo is not just art to me but like a goal to aspire to.

I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE.
AND I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE!
Thinking of all the books I could have carted home from something like this brings tears to my book-loving heart.
I know I’ve linked to the first image before, but the second! Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh as evil masterminds! ::screams in delight:: Look at the expression on Poohbear’s face! Clovis wants to have tea with him and talk about joining forces.
‘Secret Agent Calvin and Hobbes’ and ‘Secret Agent Calvin and Hobbes: Meet Dr. Robin’ by Coran “Kiser” Stone
As a Calvin and Hobbes fan and someone who grew up on Winnie the Pooh I find this crazy, awesome and burrowing into my writer’s brain.
A rodent-eating snake and a hamster have developed an unusual bond at a zoo in Tokyo, Japan. Their relationship began when zookeepers presented the hamster to the snake as a meal.
However, the rat snake (named Aochan) refused to eat the rodent. The two now share a cage, and the hamster sometimes falls asleep sitting on top of his natural foe. Zookeepers have since named the hamster ‘Gohan’ – the Japanese word for meal.Aw AW. My feels.
Interspecies friendships are always an interesting sight.
One of the tough things about being a writer is the hustle of writing, finding a home for your work and getting paid. How easy or hard any of these is can change from one project to the next. The local paper I freelance for is really good about being in contact with me when I need additional information about an assignment. It took me a moment to get into the swing of their payment policy when I started last year but in 2012 they made some updates that improved things for their freelancers and more importantly communicated them.
When I’m not writing news articles and the like, I write fiction. In fiction writing a big part of the hustle can be finding the right home for your work. There are a lot shady customers in publishing that prey on a writer’s dreams of being published. Every writer I know has a story of being scammed or a near miss. I had one experience early in my writing career with an anthology. It was a lesson that didn’t cost me any money fortunately.
I have a few pieces of fiction that I’m prepping to shop around. I’ve been on a short story/ flash fiction kick that has had (to my mind) some really fun results creatively. The thing is find a good magazine can be an experience to put it mildly. Magazines started up and shut down regularly and some don’t have a high circulation or pay you only in contributor’s copies. This doesn’t even factor in web/ electronic based publications. The best way for searching for a home for orphan stories I find is thinking about my goals as writer overall and for the story I want to place specifically.
I’m optimistic about finding a home for my newest stories just sometimes the writer’s hustle can be overwhelming.

The clouds today were pretty awesome at lunchtime so I went out and took some pictures. The best thing about this area is the interesting variety of scenery on offer.
