The library at Mafra National Palace in Portugal. Where, to keep books from being damaged by insects, they uses 500 bats! The bats are kept in boxes during the day but at night they are let out and eat up to double their own body weight in insects. (Info taken from this article at bookwire. Thanks to amygarvey for telling me about it!)
I think I need to go there. Do you think they’d notice if I moved in?
It was considered the most beautiful library in the world!

I get this question a lot regarding why I don’t have a rate card posted for my services. The simple answer is because every project is different but a lot of people aren’t quite clear on what this means.
I can have two clients who want to have copy written by a set deadline. The rate for the copy will vary based on the subject matter, level of research, writing time and deadline. If this is a quick process for one client but a slow process for another the proposed rate for a job may vary.
The key is communicating clearly the rate and breaking down what will happen in each step of the process for the price. My advice to anyone who is thinking of hiring a freelancer is to make sure you communicate clearly the work you need an make sure you have a clear understanding of the services the freelancer can provide so that you are both a good match to work together.

This is an article I wrote back in June that I had a really great time doing. Talent Abounds In Sunset Elementary’s Production Of “The King and I” . Covering events with children is a really fun experience, especially watching how much talent they have and the work they are willing to put forth.
On a business trip in philadelphia and I found this awesome bit of stained glass. Apparently, a number of the bus stops feature it in differing designs. I love public art beautification projects.
The thing I love about writing for a local paper is the array or assignments that can come my way.
A few weeks ago I got the chance to cover an elementary school play. I’ve done this productions of all shapes and sizes over they years but never with a production of people so young. It was amazing and fantastic the drama program at this school is just another item on the list of reasons kids thrive when they have artistic outlets.
If interested check out my article here.
I also got to cover a expo on health & safety. I go to chance to talk with an awesome woman who works with the areas only women’s domestic violence shelter. It was really amazing talking about the work being done and I hope I get the chance to talk with her more in-depth in the future.
I love books. Well, I love writing so the two go hand in hand but I love books to an insane degree. My dream is be a crazy old book lady, instead of the usual crazy old cat lady troupe. A book igloo is not just art to me but like a goal to aspire to.
